Peek-a-boo

Howie and I did another hike in the southern Catskills. We climbed Peekamoose and Table mountains from Peekamoose Road (County Route 42). There was no snow at all on the trail until about the 3000 foot elevation mark. Then, it was hard-packed snow with some icy spots. Got by with just boots.

We had a nice sunny day for our trek in the woods (temps in the 30s). Took about 5 1/2 hours for the entire hike.

Summit Elevation: Peekamoose 3843 ft, Table 3847 ft
Round-trip Distance: 8.5 mi
Elevation Change: 3030 ft

Happy New Year

It's been almost a month since my last hike. So, I had to convince my inner brat to get out there and do some hiking.

Howie and I hiked Thomas Cole and Blackdome mountains in the Catskills. (They are two of the four Catskill peaks you can see from the higher points around Albany.)

The weather was cloudy, but not that cold. There was about an inch of fresh powder on top of ice and packed snow. Carried snow shoes, but never put them on. It was tricky in the steeper spots with the ice hidden under the snow. On the way down, I did some butt sliding. We didn't see anyone on our 4.5 hour trek in the woods.

Summit Elevation: Thomas Cole 3940 ft, Blackdome 3980 ft
Round-trip Distance: 7.0 mi
Elevation Change: 2640 ft
