...out like a lamb

Howie and I did a hike in the Catskills on this last day of March. We started at the trailhead in Palenville, and hiked up the old Harding Road to the North Lake campground area. We followed along part of the Escarpment trail .... stopping at Sunset Rock for a lunch break. Our next destination was the former Kaaterskill Hotel site. There was not much too see there except some old stone foundations. We then headed over to Palenville overlook and followed an old unmarked road back down passing some former bluestone quarries on the way.

Round-trip Distance: 7.5 mi
Elevation Change: 1700 ft

We also did a short (~ 1 mile) hike to Kaaterskill Falls which is in the same area. Overall, it was a nice sunny Spring day to be out.

Roaming

After the St. Patty's Day dump (15 inches of new snow), I took Howie up near Thatcher Park. We did a short hike on the Long Path to Roemers High Point. The trail was pretty well packed down when we got there (3 pm), but I still used snowshoes. A snowboarder half-way up the hill had built a ramp out of snow and was doing some jumps. It was very sunny out, but windy- esp. near the lookout where snow was blowing around. Now, I am ready for some Spring.

Round-trip Distance: 3.0 mi
Elevation Change: 600 ft

Ok, I admit I look a little confused here
