Howie and I did a hike in the Catskills on this last day of March. We started at the
trailhead in Palenville, and hiked up the old Harding Road to the North Lake campground area. We followed along part of the Escarpment trail .... stopping at Sunset Rock for a lunch break. Our next destination was the former
Kaaterskill Hotel site. There was not much too see there except some old stone foundations. We then headed over to Palenville overlook and followed an old unmarked road back down passing some former bluestone quarries on the way.
Round-trip Distance: 7.5 mi
Elevation Change: 1700 ft
We also did a short (~ 1 mile) hike to
Kaaterskill Falls which is in the same area. Overall, it was a nice sunny Spring day to be out.

If only you could read Howie's thoughts as he takes in the view...
He's thinking ... "hmmm ... that's a long way down"
