Happy New Year

It's been almost a month since my last hike. So, I had to convince my inner brat to get out there and do some hiking.

Howie and I hiked Thomas Cole and Blackdome mountains in the Catskills. (They are two of the four Catskill peaks you can see from the higher points around Albany.)

The weather was cloudy, but not that cold. There was about an inch of fresh powder on top of ice and packed snow. Carried snow shoes, but never put them on. It was tricky in the steeper spots with the ice hidden under the snow. On the way down, I did some butt sliding. We didn't see anyone on our 4.5 hour trek in the woods.

Summit Elevation: Thomas Cole 3940 ft, Blackdome 3980 ft
Round-trip Distance: 7.0 mi
Elevation Change: 2640 ft

We went hiking yesterday, too. No snow or ice since it was 50 degrees. It was muddy though in parts. http://www.nvrpa.org/redrock.html

I walked to my car a few times yesterday. Does that count?
